I've always stood up for what I believe is right & I make no bones about it when pointing out what I believe is wrong. I don't mind making the effort for a just cause. You know, there's an odd similarity with how we've dealt with our bin-laden's-in-austin on SI & the bin Laden's of the real world. You certainly make a good point about how writing SI Admin & pointing out the folly of their error(s), particularly by pointing out how they let the bin-laden's run amok. Those who hold power don't like to have their obvious mistakes & shortcomings pointed out to them & it really peeves them when it is done by joe-average-poster. BTW, I've tried discussing it rationally with them a number of times. Unfortunately, they aren't too receptive to rational discussion coming from joe-average-poster either. Must have something to do with the perception that having power means you are always right.......... regardless of reality, facts, reason or logic. It might have something to do with confusing their responsibility to oversee others in a responsible manner with having power over them. And you know how power can give one the belief they are better than you, particularly if they can use their power to silence you. Besides, it would take some effort on their part to do the right thing. I guess it's far easier to keep the status quo & join the parade of excuse makers & it takes a lot less effort to accomplish that task than it would to actually do what is right. What they don't realize is that they don't solve squat in the long run. All they do is embolden the presence of a larger population of bin-laden's-in-austin types who create an ever increasing amount of disruption. Meanwhile the joe-average-posters either become militant over time, or they leave. Me thinks that taking the easy route today only sets you up for exponential growth of problems as time goes by. Think Yahoo message boards :-( They weren't always the stinking chit holes they are today. That's why I support GWB's declaration to rid the world of terrorism against the USA. These terrorists have only grown more aggressive & evil with each attack on Americans. Our limited actions in dealing with them & the countless lame the excuses offered why we can't, won't or shouldn't deal with them (it's really not much different than what goes on here on SI with our bin-laden's-in-austin) has only emboldened these terrorists & teach them to exploit our obvious weaknesses, plus they can get away with mass murder with little or no repercussions. If we don't root out every bin laden & their networks aggressively & completely, we are only asking for attacks that will make the WTC & Pentagon attacks seem minor in comparison. OOF Perhaps I've indulged in a wee bit too much sugar tonight. I'll stop ranting now :-|
