If we did n't waste it what would we do with it?
So is that a tacit agreement that the money is mostly funny money. That were it directed at say 'development' in africa or central asia ( see -no personal axe to grind) it would not really be all that effective.
What would it take to create a scenario where the 'best off' 280 million in the world consider it a worthwhile challenge to address the fate of the 1-2 billion poor? That seems the real waste to me, that we go on and on with techno toys with no sense of being fellow travellers on this planet with all the others. If the first world governments starting with europe had more women in positions of power would it make a difference?
BTW: really appreciate your insisting on introducing facts to the discussions without taking sides

The US gets a lot of money for its military equipment, far more than any other country in the world. It's one of the biggest exports the country has. And the weaponry is sold to Saudi Arabia:

Tell that to the person who posted the following to me (You do realize that I just cut and paste the following from somene else - just follow the thread..)

Hi ratan lal; Re: "Correct me if I'm wrong, ratan, but it looks to me like we're getting the worst of both worlds: we pay for the oil, AND we pay for the military and foreign aid that protects the oil-producing countries, notably SA."

The US is far, far, far more rich than Saudi Arabia, or any other Middle East nation is.

And you are forgetting one other thing. The US is rich based on brain power and not oil - which oil does deplete even tho it may not in our lifetime. Not only do hose idiots spend their time fooling around in thgeir harems, but they also keep their power by making sure their people dont get educated enuf to throw their asses out. Can you imagine the day that oil depletes from SA. they will have to go back to riding camels.
