PC market seen bottoming out in 4th quarter

Korea's domestic PC market is expected to bottom out from the fourth quarter of this year and recover its usual pace during the first half of next year, business sources said yesterday.

Windows XP and Pentium4 are expected to emerge as the market's mainstay starting in the fourth quarter, and demand will be created during the first half of next year.

A source at TriGem Computer Co. said that those consumers who bought PCs from late 1999 through the first half of last year are expected to change models chiefly during the first half of next year, he said.

Another computer company source predicted that the PC market would rebound from the first half of 2002, after compatibility problems with Windows XP are resolved.

An LG-IBM source said that optimism that Windows XP will lead the PC market is still premature. The possibility is high, however, that during the first half of next year the market will become buoyant, he added.
