Israel uses private companies for airport security

Last time I flew out of Israel the gal asking me questions looked pretty official in her uniform while her "boyfriend" who just watched her while holding his submachine gun looked positively governmental. They had twice the baggage screeners at each position where as when I had left the U.S. there was just the one person who I think doubled as the ticket agent. They pretty much have both sets of security at the same time, not just supervised private companies.

If what you say is true, then why did the Senate vote 100-0 to federalize airport baggage checkers?
