I saw a news item last night that quoted a Northern Alliance leader as saying American ground forces are not needed. On the other hand, I have seen quotes from the Pentagon anticipating the insertion of conventional ground forces at some point. So I would say that I do not know what the Northern Alliance expects or should expect, and I do not know what we are planning to do. I am very hesitant, granted that I am not privy either to the array of facts upon which decisions are being made, or to the specific planning that has gone into the operation, to play armchair general.........
