Bill- You can't make exceptions. If anything happens on the bad side, how do you explain the lack of security to the survivors? No one should ever be denied dignity, but the situation is one where measures have to be taken. It's as simple as that. Where & when trouble starts is when someone engages in conversation or lengthy explanations. That always leads to problems. By just making it a simple request, nothing more, it doesn't give any room for blowups. Then the passenger can choose to comply and get on the plane, or deny and go home.
