OT Daryl,
Its that type of thinking that has gotten us into this mess. We had from 1953 on to positively influence the Shah before the Khomeni group took over. In that period the Shah created savak, a secret police that rivaled the stasi in East Germany for cruelty and effectiveness. The Shahs rule became untenable. There were plenty of moderates and democrats there left with the fundamentalists and no choice. They are first reappearing some 25 years later.
Saudi Arabia may be the next iran. mike

I STILL believe that we should backed the Shah.

Interfering in another countries internal affairs always involves creating long term problems for short term gains.
