JHA, Document the failure? Are you serious? After September 11, Pan Am 103 and the Alaska Airlines disaster caused by negligent maintenance, you are asking me to document the failure of the FAA. They are supposed to police the airlines and they have not done it. Now, the Republican House wants them to police with different standards.

I remember, wistfully, a couple of months back that the conventional wisdom about what the FAA's failure was, was that they could not possibly manage the explosive growth in airline travel.

re:Air travel in this country is safer than going by car.

Even including all the dead on 9/11? At least I know who's going to get into my car (barring carjacking, of course!).
I'll be flying at Thanksgiving and I'm not looking forward to it, but it's tough to drive from Louisiana to California and back!
BTW, I was a nervous flyer even before all this stuff. And, I will be profiling. I want to sit next to the guy that looks like a potential hijacker, cause I'll be one of the first to jump on anyone who pulls a pair of box cutters or whatever.
BTW, is it true there is no alcohol on planes now? I remember hearing or reading that somewhere. Now, THAT is taking away one of my freedoms! I guess I can't even sneak any on nowadays.
