Turns out he hasn't been considered the Imam for about 20 years - they threw him out.

That's good news. Maybe. They probably replaced him with a Wahhabi--out of the frying pan and into the fire.

On another subject, I saw you post recently about the work being done at the Pentagon, I don't recall on which thread. I had seen the Pentagon just after they opened Washington Blvd. and posted on the Boxing Ring that I was comforted somewhat when I saw how small the hole was and how well the building had stood up to the attack. The hole was much smaller than it appeared on TV--less than the width of a plane's wingspan. I went by again today and saw what had been torn down. It was quite a jolt. I wonder how much will be removed before rebuilding can start.

I don't think Arabs and their supporters who blame the Mossad for the WTC bombing has thought though what it is actually says about their hero bin Laden.

Here was the a brilliantly-planned and executed terrorist act which brought dancing, distribution of sweets and firing of rifles on the West Bank, Gaza and similar celebrations in some other parts of the Arab world. The biggest blow yet in the struggle against the "Great Satan."

One might have thought that all praise would go to bin Laden who after all is a "hero" and savior to uncounted fundamentalists (only fundamentalists?). Why give it to Mossad?

It demeans bin Laden to lower status unless one has a mindset that has the ability to hold conflicting beliefs simultaneously. Since I'm not licensed as a shrink, I'll pass on trying to explain it.

During the 1967 Yom Kippur--Ramadan-- War, I lived in a house next door to Jordanian Embassy in New Delhi and witnessed a curious event. A group of Palestinian students studying in India had gathered outside the Embassy to follow the news of the war. As one recalls, the Israelis quickly wiped out the opposing air forces and were on their way, had they wished, to Cairo and Damascus.

One of the students was talking into what appeared to be a wooden telephone and relaying news of Arab victories to the cheering crowd. He would pass the "phone" to another student who would announce the destruction of 50 more Israeli aircraft--and the cheers got louder. In jubilation, a few burst into dance.

Go figure.
