Hi Hawk,

Sorry, I'm so tardy in responding...Yes, I am familiar with a MAU, MAB, and MAF. Basically a MAU is a 1/9th or battalion slice of a Marine Amphibious Force....there being 9 infantry battalions in a Marine division...MAB, brigade, is built around an infantry regiment...tailored for the job, much like the Army.

Yes, we would like to think that Ospreys would be operational now, but these things take time...We Marines got hoisted on our own petard for rushing the cadence on that bird...its been in the news the past few months....We won't see Ospreys for a long, long, time...but, it took us a long time starting in the late 40's 'til we had Marine operational helicopters in Korea...in Vietnam, the Army had the wherewithall to put enough birds in the sky to black out the sun...something you have to have for absolute superiority in the attack. When the Army 196th Light Infantry came up to relieve us below Chu Lai, they had a Huey for every squad...my kind of travel...needless to say, we were envious..

Regarding inserting a force of any size, I do not wish to argue against success. I am a proponent of it...For my comments viz-a-viz the current debate with my worthy sparring partner, Unclewest, please see my previous post.

We are in an unknown situation in an unknown land...I would encourage those of us who are so inclined to pray for our leaders and pray for our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines, that wisdom may prevail, courage sustained, and that patience be valued.

May God Bless America
