wanna_bmw,

"It seems to me that the AMDroids don't like to admit that a large percentage of Athlon based systems routinely end up with these "configuration problems" "

Well, my current system is the most stable one I ever had - and I had a lot since the old 286 days.

And it is rock stable despite the fact that the CPU is overclocked from 1200 to 1304 MHz and the FSB to 147. Of course, I use high quality components like an ASUS A7V133 mobo, good RAM and a high-performance power supply.

Peter

You are confusing configuration problems with stability.

Athlon users are bound to have more configuration problems than Intel users because Athlon users are generally more sophisticated than Intel users. I am not talking about overclocking, I mean in terms of adding memory, extra cards etc. If you don't change your system (or try and build one from scratch) then you won't have configuration problems with it.

As for stability, then I have to say I have had many more problems with Intel systems crashing on me for no reason. Then again we use Intel systems exclusively at work so it would be unfair to conclude that they are intrinsically less stable wouldn't it?

RE:"It seems to me that the AMDroids don't like to admit that a large percentage of Athlon based systems routinely end up with these "configuration problems", and like to trivialize them as they come up. The Intellabees prefer to enforce the idea that stability is an important rule of thumb, independent of AMD or Intel. Consequently, things tend to get tense between both parties, though this is not a direct result of the observation.'

Been my experience that Athlon systems are far more stable than Intel systems. This goes back many years on the Intel systems...

It seems obvious that the xp-1900 will be introduced shortly as the Intellibees are trying to fall back on stability as their main reason for buying Intel as they know they have lost both price and performance, for xmas. Isn't this the same argument you had when the 1ghz athlons had the performance crown.
