bin Laden is only playing to the crowd as does any politician or military/terrorist organization that wishes to sell their actions to their populace or allies/potential allies. "They had no institutions of a state, since there had never been a Palestinian state, and anyway the local elite all skipped town before the end of the Mandate. (They are actually held in low regard in the Middle East I'm told, for not staying and fighting.)" They may have not had an idea of "State" but does that give foreigners the right to usurp the native population because of that? Have the Zionists not evolved farther than the Hebrews who justified their slaughter of the Amakelites and Canaanites because they worshipped false G-ds? The local elite? The British, were being fired upon by terrorists such as Shamir. Begin and other European Nationalists who wanted to create a "Jewish" State. They did not favor European Jews in their efforts. Neither did Henry Kissinger. I do not buy into bin Ladens idea that any piece of land that once once Muslim must always remain Muslim, but I think you miss the point that he is making. Sadaam Hussein made the same point and it was missed as well. Sadaam Hussein claimed that Kuwait was at one time part of Iraq, which it was and he was "just" taking it back based on historical precedent. bin Laden makes the same point with Andalusia. Actually Serbia made the same claim to Bosnia and/or Kosovo. What they are saying is: Why is it permissible for European and American Jews to take our land, using historical and Biblical claims, yet when we say the same, using the same logic and "facts" we are considered terrorists? Furthermore, they are having to come half way across the earth to fulfill the deed? This is why I say that Israel is no better than Iraq and bin Laden in Afghanistan with their policies.
