Yes. I think by definition an "extremist," whether left or right, remains in the fold, but hovers on the edge, figuratively speaking. I've never thought of violence as a requisite of extremism. I've always thought of extremists as those who advocated taking a particular cause to the limit, but still staying inside the fence. Those who exceed the limit then must be defined in different terms, i.e., revolutionaries, outlaws, crazed, etc.
