Paul,

are Intel routers inferior because they cost much less than comparable Cisco routers, or is Intel just starting a price war?

Steve

Re: 1.26GHz Pentium III-S was cut 11 percent

The PIII core has a lot going for it. While dual P4 core Xeon's running 1.7GHZ were bady beaten by dual Athlons running 1.2GHZ, we know that PIII is roughly equivalent to Athlon, clock for clock (faster on as much code as it is slower on).

PIII is cheap to produce, doesn't use much power, is beloved of IT management, and sells for high ASPs.

How clever of Intel's management to dump PIII, and replace it with the low performance, expensive to produce, low ASP, and suspected by IT P4.
