Youre right AA unfortunately history will likely repeat itself at this point and we will see the dow at three or 4k.
Boom and bust periods are a fact of life and nothing we do can prevent them. I think it is just an example of killing the messenger when people who call for a lower market are bashed as destroyers and enemys of of the country or small investors. It has always been the case that small investors end up holding the bag as they buy "bargains" from professionals in a bear market.

At least we can try to prevent those close to us from getting burned. My folks have taken thie 401k's out of equities however I cant get them to pick up even a small amount of gold shares. Their response is "Oh thats silly golds not worth anything". The fact that many gold shares have doubled or tripled since last year does not impress them at all. So at least Ive won a partial victory.
I do think it is unfortunate to be catching the tail end of a bubble and perhaps the beginning of a grinding bear. The opportunity for profiting in that type of environment is very small. Perhaps since the 70's bear was a flat we will get a sharp correction that will be brief. If things get bad enough I will buy a seat on the exchange. A taxi drivers medallion was more expensive in New York in 72 from what I hear.
