" you can take little pieces of the rest of the world, find the best from each and form a composite yet you cannot name ONE other country in the world that is better on all counts than here. If you did, I suspect you'd be there."

Most of those items I ticked off apply to many of the western democracies of Europe plus Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. I find it embarrassing when arrogant Americans constantly trumpet how great they think we are in the presence of people from other countries. It embarasses me to hear chants of USA USA during Olympic competition when we are beating Lower Slobovia in basketball 120-2. It's just an illustration of poor manners and lack of tact. Everyone is proud of the country in which they were born. If that were not true we would not hear our fellow citizens identify themselves as hypenated Americans, ie "I'm Irish, Italian, etc." I would guess you do the same or your parents and grandparents do. I would further guess that your family member who migrated here was very proud of his/her homeland and probably came for economic reasons. Very few of us are here because of political considerations. You won't find very many successful foreigners lining up at our consulates trying to get permanent visas..

Re: university students....in international academic circles, our graduate schools ARE considered the best in the world. Another little factoid for you...if you check the PhD candidates in our science and engineering schools you will find that significantly more than half are foreign students. And they all had to take entrance exams in English. Our undergraduate schools are not regarded highly. And we certainly do not compare very well with our K-12 programs. You are familiar, I'm sure, with the dismal results we have gotten in international competitions in science and math.

re:Scandanavian country tells me they send lots of their University students here..

Scandanavia is very expensive vs. the US dollar and they recognize a bargain similar to our citizens going to Europe or Canada for cheap medical care. US colleges love undergrads from any foreign country since they pay full fare compared with the very very high percentage of US students who receive aid of some sort.
