wbmw,

the Pentium III 1GHz still beats the Athlon 1GHz.

I think beats is a strong word, since the important application scores where Piii leads under Win 98 are reversed and AMD leads under Windows 2000.

But I will admit that Piii is a strong performer on integer apps / benchmarks, which matter more to me than floating point benchmarks, which Athlon leads. Piii, like Athlon, is a balanced processor, which would have been even stronger performer if Intel didn't hold it back for political reasons (by not improving FSB, not adding DDR support).

"According to those benchmarks, the Pentium III 1GHz still beats the Athlon 1GHz."

Very clever. It is ok to compare 1GHz P-III with
1GHz Athlon, but it is NOT OK to compare 1.5GHZ P4
with 1.5GHz Athlon. Intellainvestor's logic at it's
top.
