The politicians need to change their speech endings to more accurately reflect the true feelings of most Americans now:

"Good night. God bless you. And God bless the American stock market."

If I hear one more idiot say, "Investors are much smarter than they used to be. They are looking out beyond the bad news and discounting it altogether." Now there's a realistic, bury your head in the sand approach. "Mr. Johnson, you have a terminal form of a virus for which we have no known successful treatment. There is a 90% probability you will be dead in 3 months. If you beat your head with this rubber ball-ping mallet each day, you will not have to think about the eventual outcome. And if in your beating, you happen to live for a full year, you might actually recover. Either way, you won't care. Or, you could just spend your last 3 months warning others not to eat the square, yellow packages of food they keep finding in their back yards. This would be constructive and help others in the future. However, the American way is to keep eating and pass out ball-ping hammers."

I remain,

SOROS
