Dear Walkingshadow: THATS THE SPIRIT!! Did you know in ancient times a Roman citizen was safe anywhere in the known world? Thats because if ONE Roman citizen was harmed the LEGIONS marched in and destroyed the entire nation and put them in bondage. Seems like a nice tradition to me!! JDN

"I doubt the carpet bombing had much to do with the outcome of that war at all" re: carpet bombing....for the most part I think you're right and moving of rocks and dirt in Afghanistan probably fits your model. But there was a recent time in history when bombing alone worked. I'm referring, of course, to Serbia a couple of years ago. Milosovic was brought to his knees and now to justice by bombing alone. You won't hear that talked about on this thread because credit would have to be given to Clinton and that's a no-no.
