combjelly: What makes it easier to blame Microsoft is that we are dual booting with Linux. Under Linux, even when it is running Win4Lin, we don't have problems. When we were using WinNT4 on the other partition, it would hang about once a day. Under Win2k, less often. Under Linux, never.

This could get a lot better with WinXP. My understanding is that it is the first MS OS to completely separate the kernel from the GUI.

Now if only they would make the kernel dynamic...

Speaking of Microsoft, I'm amazed how much faster Netscape 6 is than 4.7x. And you can even view the AMD website! I dislike IE 5.5 because
1) it doesn't tell you what it is doing -- for example, if your DNS isn't working, you'll know it with Netscape, not with IE.
2) it "gives up" too easy, saying something is not available, with no explanation

Performance of Netscape 6.1 is definitely faster than IE 5.5.
