JimL, chip sales are different for sure because some are profitless now. Monthly ww chip sales for September were near $10B - about the same level of the two troughs in 1996 and 1998. But September's y-o-y comparison looks much worse than in past troughs because 2000 was a chip bumper crop. And, these are sales - not profits.

Still, there is some good news from TMSC. they're planning 6 new fabs. Life goes on.

I don't get excited about this. Announcements are nice, equipment orders are better, delivery and payment are best. :)
