What has caused this problem? Is it because insurance companies are given tax advantages? Is it because people have lost respect of and if so why? Is it because insurance companies out of greed did not come up with fair value.

Again we are back to a moral issue that is used to immoral advantage. And what sanctions this i am sure are laws that were once written for a fraction of the populous we have now. Contact with each other on a daily base created more moral the business world was a people world they felt more part of.

It also has to do with insurance company behaviour. The bean counters decide it is not "cost effective" to vigorously fight chiseling, penny ante fraudulent claims. Cheaper to raise the premium than go pit bull.

Years ago I did a lot of business with vehicle insurers. I'd tell the adjuster this person is trying to zing you for an extra $500 worth of body work. He'd shrug his shoulders because it wasn't worth the expense of pursuing the matter. Now there is a running racist joke: how many cars does a member of a certain community buy in his lifetime? (Probably isn't true with respect to that community but the sting of truth is in the joke.)

There is a racket in parts of N America of arranged vehicle accidents for the purpose of developing personal injury claims. These often aren't penny ante. Individuals don't get wacked but commercial equipment operators are plagued with this sort of crap.

If insurance companies do not energetically fight every single one of these fraudulent claims and suits, this activity expands. Face it - a small part of our community are NFG and rewarding them for this is always costly because they grow to industrial strength.
