They don't do it so that we have a reason for our discussion about market shares? *g* Seriously, I've thought about this and I can't come up with anything other than something vague along the line of keeping AMD (and TMTA, VIA) in the dark for competitive reasons. Please let me know what you think Intel's reasons are.

I think Intel had much more than a 1.1M unit increase from second quarter
Let me repeat this: Various reports I (and most likely you too) have read over the last few weeks state that PC sales have declined in Q3. CPU upgrades and additional CPUs sold in multiprocessing systems (Intel has a serious advantage here of course) probably made up for that so that the market for CPUs (not PCs) possibly grew in Q3 over Q2 but not by much. That's why I believe the 1.1M units you calculated is probably a very good estimate and close to actual numbers.
