NHC Communications Upgrades ControlPoint(TM) Family to "e"Series Level - Connections Can Now be Made in Seconds
MONTREAL, Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ - NHC Communications Inc. (TSE: NHC - news), a leading provider of automated mainframe solutions for the copper-based telecommunications and Internet access markets, today announced that three products of the ControlPoint(TM) family, which includes CP800, CP800RT, CP1600, CP3200 and CP5400, will be upgraded to the enhanced (``e'') series level for 2002. The new technology will enable the ControlPoint(TM) hardware to switch ports in half the time of the classic units.
``Upgrading the ControlPoint(TM) robotic cross connect switch to the ''e`` series level all comes down to speed,'' said Sylvain Abitbol, President and CEO of NHC Communications. ``Essentially, this major enhancement means that single connections can now be made in seconds.''
NHC's technology now offers all the benefits of fast robotic technology, including a competitive edge, small footprint and low ``cost per port.''
Added Abitbol: ``This is ideal for high-speed data service providers like Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (ILECs) and Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs). Both require products with a broad range of potential applications in manned and unmanned Central Office (CO), Remote Terminal (RT) and in-building environments.''
The three units being upgraded are CP800, CP1600 and CP3200. Key features of the ``e'' series upgrade are as follows:
- cross connects are now twice as fast; - an increase in CP1600e's network side ports from 1024 to 1152 and in CP3200e's network side ports from 2048 to 2112, offering more opportunities to expand services and generate revenue through the switch; - the network and subscriber ports of both CP1600e and CP3200e can be expanded independently, providing greater flexibility (and even a 1-1 network-to-subscriber ratio); - on-board flash ROM in lieu of hard drives, eliminating the possibility of hard drive failure; and - reduction in CO space and cost due to the high density, new design.
The robotic cross connect switch is one of three components behind the ControlPoint solution, which also includes intelligent software and firmware. Most of NHC Communications' investments in research and development for the past five years have been focused on the software and firmware components that control the entire ControlPoint(TM) solution.
NHC's ControlPoint(TM) solution enables local exchange carriers to operate more quickly and more accurately, thereby reducing operating costs, boosting efficiency and ultimately improving customer service levels.
