There is one major difference, the breakup of Standard oil acomplished what they wanted - competition. Breaking up msft into an operating system company and an applications company would just create two monopolies - they would not compete against each other.

But I agree they should have done more then slap their wrist.

Which is the difference between politicians & judges. One is interested in justice; the other is mining future campaign contributions.
