I heard on the radio this evening that there are actual ground zero groupies for the guys cleaning it up.

Might have something to do with the ruckus.

I read some more details of the demonstration this morning, and it does seem that some (especially union leadership) did act inappropriately. The mayor called for a reduction of "spotters" (people looking for remains as cleanup proceeds) to 75 people. That seems reasonable to me, and it was done in the name of safety.

The top union guy and two other union leaders were arrested. It was bad behavior and judgement, but that was inspired by the deep passions I am sure. I just don't like the mob mentality. Don't think there was any effort to work with the mayor, just immediate marching on to the sight. Very unfortunate and ugly.
