DETROIT (AP) -- Kris Draper scored both goals and Chris Osgood lost for the second time to his old team in a 2-1 Red Wings win over the New York Islanders on Friday.

Detroit improved to 12-2-0-0 while the Islanders lost their first game of the season in regulation and fell to 9-1-1-1.

Osgood was picked up in the waiver draft by New York just before the season began after playing his first eight NHL seasons with the Red Wings. He stopped 26 shots.

The Red Wings defeated the Islanders 5-4 in overtime on Oct. 13.

The loss was the first on the road for the Islanders this season after six straight victories. The record for consecutive road wins to start the season is seven, which is held by the 1940-41 Maple Leafs.

Draper, who has four goals for the season, last scored twice in a game on March 22 against the Minnesota Wild.

His second goal broke a 1-1 tie at 9:19 of the second period when he tipped a pass from Maxim Kuznetsov out of the corner, off Osgood's backside and into the net from just off the crease.

The Islanders opened the scoring just 1:05 into the game when they scored on their first shot. Shawn Bates tipped in a pass from Mark Parrish. The tip beat Red Wing goaltender Dominik Hasek high on the stick side.

Detroit tied the game with 3:52 left in the first period on a short-handed goal by Draper. Draper stole the puck from New York's Alexei Yashin at the center red line, skated into the Islanders' zone and fired a wrist shot fromthe top of the right circle off of Osgood's blocker and into the net.

Notes

: This was Osgood's 400th NHL game. ... The 12-2 start is the best14-game start in the 76-year history of the Red Wing franchise.

Those Aryan Nation people were sold out to satisfy a judgment against them, and have scattered. They were a hateful bunch, but utterly impotent in spite of their bombast.

Furman lives in Sandpoint, Idaho. I lived not far from there in Bonners Ferry, and I will put either town, or Hayden Lake, Coeur d'Alene, or any other in North Idaho against any other town of comparable size in the United States. They are fine towns, peaceful and peaceable.

I intend to settle in one of those neighborhoods when I retire. If any latent Aryan Nation types linger on, I will join a protest march against them and speak against them at every opportunity.

Anybody but the most ignorant would find North Idaho to be one of the finest places on earth and have the finest people anywhere. But don't believe me. I want you to stay away and I don't care if you are right wing or left wing. Just stay away.
