Sadly, municipal dumps are a good place to find bears.

They are dangerous, and we are required to carry a suitable rifle or slug gun in the woods.

A rather bellicose guy I once worked for in an earlier time shared a desk next to mine for several years after I moved to Juneau. He went in the field and when he returned had an encounter with the security officer in the federal building. The guard challenged the .375 magnum he was carrying. He buffaloed the hapless security guard, who lost his job on the following day and suffered no consequences himself, other than official disapproval. The necessity for bear protection is mainly a pain in the butt. We already have too much stuff to carry, not including a firearm.
