Let's review their stars.

And . . . the political card was played.

State Senator Don Perata informed BART early on that he would see to it that, in the event of a strike, the state legislature would be looking into BART's books.

Perata is a Democrat long known for bullying tactics which he learned from Willie Brown's associate in Sacramento.

San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown

I've met Willie several times. One time at Clown Alley in SF's North Beach he was by himself buying a hot dog. This was 20 years ago and he wasn't well known at that time. I bought something and he walked up and started chatting with me. We were the only ones there. He didn't think I knew who he was, and I sensed he really didn't care whether I did or not. I can only say that he was a great guy. Since then he has been dragged through the reality of "all powas to da peepulz", and at this time, he's ready to go Republican. He can't do that because it's too late, so he has to go along with the image of "all powas".

Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown,

Brown is undergoing a similar transformation. The class warfare rhetoric simply won't work even among socialists. He has to be practical because the liberals have destroyed every aspect of Oakland to such an extreme extent that no one wants anything to do with place unless they're looking for a handout. This has made the mayor's job essentially impossible and it has Brown bagged in the same way as the other Brown. They're both gagged by the contradiction of a false philosophy and the belief that they have to embrace the absurdities to retain in office.

Assembly Member Dion Aroner,

I don't know this person.

State Senator Tom Torlakson,

This guy is dangerous. He's glib, he got in power by appearance, he's a rubber stamper, he's a manipulator and knows how to pull strings, he's ambitious, and his socialism is only convenient. He was the one who promised something like support for a major BART ticket increase in order to get management to go along with the contract. It's amazing that the terms exceed management's initial offer. This interference by government has the expediency of collective bargaining and is no different than price fixing.

The coming depression will completely reverse California's obsession with the socialism. The two Browns are already running away from it as fast as their constituencies will let them.
