Tony:

"What happens if AMD ever leapfrogs Intel in clock speed? I'll tell you what. They'll advertise the bejeezus out of it, and quanti-quilli-quippy-quacky-speed will be a thing of the past."

When marketing, one dresses the product in a way that best shows off its most desirable qualities...QuantiSpeed best demonstrates AMD's superior architectural model from which the Athlon derives...When AMD takes the MHz lead, a 3.0 gig MHz Athlon will, in all likelihood, manifest itself in an XP 4.0 gig QuantiSpeed rating...Why on earth, at that stage in AMD's evolution, will AMD be concerned with MHz only, when QuantSpeed, a much more representative "overall performance" measurement is a full 1 gig greater???

Tony, "I'll tell you what. They'll advertise the bejeezus out of it, and quanti-quilli-quippy-quacky-speed will be a thing of the past."

It is a dynamic world, is not it?

"What happens if AMD ever leapfrogs Intel in clock speed?"

First, it is not likely to happen, primarily because
it would be stupid to create even more unbalanced
architecture than P4. Currently, processor-alone IPC
for Athlon is significantly higher than P4, but AMD
loses on out-of-CPU traffic. I understand that with
introduction of Hammer family AMD will pioneer on-chip
memory controllers, which should reduce current
deficiencies of AMD out-of-CPU traffic. That will be
a little different game.

[I am assuming here that a) AMD performance analysis team
knows the major benchmarks run-time budgets, and b) top
management understands the implications, and will make
correct decisions. Somehow I have serious concerns about
both a) and b)].
