Said's genius is always saying these high-minded principles in the abstract, thus appealing to a Western audience, while never admitting that these principles bear no relationship to the actual behavior of Palestinian leaders. Arafat runs kindergarten camps that teach suicide bombing! Does Dr. Said call that 'promoting coexistence'?

He accuses Israel while denying the obvious -- that Arafat has waged a military campaign for more than a year whose favorite tactic is terror against civilians. If there had been no intifada -- no shootings, no bombings, no mortars -- then Israel's closures would indeed be inexcusable. If you view them in the context of over 100 suicide bombings in the last year, they begin to look a little different.

so you are on the way to Kabul to sing Kum-Ba-Ya with Richard Gere and the Taliban? Stopping off in Pakistan first (couldn't get a nonstop flight to Kabul) to meditate with the instructors at the Madrassas (religious schools) with the goal of helping them realize that they should preach love, think globally, live locally, and save the whales?
