You left out one option that is starting to be seen. They (Taleban, etc.) can change their minds. It's standard practice in Afghanistan for the warlords, and individuals, to switch sides whenever they like, either for more money or land or to save their skin. We're starting to see defections. As the heat gets turned up, we'll see more. They don't have a nation-state to keep them on track with "kill all Americans" The problem is going to be keeping everyone in line, after they cry "Uncle"
