Try the ferber method. On night 1 you put him bed and allow him to cry for 5 minutes. Then place him back in bed. If crying continues go in after 10 minutes and settle him and place him back in bed. If crying continues repeat this process every 15 minutes until he falls asleep.

On Night 2 place him in bed and if he cries go in after 10 minutes settle him and place him in bed. Again repeat this process every 15 minutes thereafter.

On Night 3 use the 15 minute schedule. You will never make it to night 3 I promise and you will solve your bedtime problems.

Sickness is the only time when this process breaks down but it works like a charm. We ferberized or son at 5 months and of all of the people we know we have the easiest bedtime. I swear to god it works like a charm.
