tc,

Last weekend I went looking for Win2Kpro on the net thinking I would buy it to move up from Win98. I got into the Microsoft site, and every time I clicked on a link to Win2K I got redirected to something about XP. It's like they are trying to force you to opt for their new operating system.

I've never been a big Microsoft fan, but I use their products because they have become what Microsoft set out to make them, by whatever means they could get away with. When I was working in industry, I often had to budget for unnecessary software upgrades for the single purpose of compatibility with files created by the latest versions that could not be read by earlier versions, regardless of whether I needed the new features of the upgraded product. Looks to me like they are running business as usual, trying to force everyone into something else they don't need.

My next use of my time is going to be to try to find the version of Windows 98 that de-couples from Internet Explorer so I can run the leanest meanest W98 that will support the programs I WANT to run on my machine. Anyone have any hints on where to look?

Dan
