FWIW, A Call to the Muslims of the World from a Group of Freethinkers and Humanists of Muslim Origins can be found at this site: secularislam.org I found interesting info there- for me: reassurance that there are numbers of muslims who are fundamentally questioning their religion. In my attempts to "understand" this religious choice, I have been frustrated with the disrespect for separation of church and state and see this as a real danger to our USA system of government and western version of culture and nations. It has always been discomforting to me to find numbers of people who accept any thought/belief system and then stopped questioning. I am not amenable any longer to the call to "understand" more about islam/muslims in order to diminish potential racist reactions. I want now to read and hear of muslims who are taking stands against terrorist acts based on the Qur'an. Nothing i have read or learned from the outside of this religious system indicates that the September 11 terrorists misinterpreted their Qur'an. It is critical that thinking muslims let the non-muslim world know of their attempts to "modernize" their religion. As this War grows in its appearance of being about religious differences, it is critical that hard communication and critical thinking come to the forefront.
