We're also an awfully convenient scapegoat for warlords to try to increase their power, and we're finally making that gig less attractive.

Since we're the Global Phone Company that everyone loves to hate, that'll pass, when these civilizations eventually industrialize.

IMO the only Way Out is as the "Reluctant Sheriff", to use only enough force to defend ourselves, help multilateral occupation, and disengage the hell out of the area.

The billions involved are too much temptation for inside government players' secret personal and departmental profiteering -- All the Saudi and Israeli connections must be terminated; all presidential papers for the last 20 years must be disclosed.

Just leave it to good old-fashioned corporate profit-mongering to make whatever deals they can, out in the open where we can keep a better eye on them.
