COPENHAGEN -- Former undisputed world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson has bought a huge villa north of the Danish capital and plans to settle in Denmark, a Danish gossip magazine said on Thursday. The popular Se & Hoer (See & Hear) magazine said Tyson, who defeated Dane Brian Nielsen in a non-title fight on Oct. 13, apparently wanted to spend more time in the country.

It said several independent sources confirmed that Tyson had already signed a contract to buy a house in a leafy north Copenhagen suburb. Tyson was expected to use his Danish house as a base in Europe until next March, when he hopes to meet the winner of next month's Lennox Lewis-Hasim Rahman world title fight.

The magazine said Tyson had apparently enjoyed his stay in Denmark so much that he and his crew had returned to Copenhagen last Sunday for a more permanent stay.

The magazine also said Tyson felt safer living in Denmark after the attacks on the United States on Sept. 11.
