I think we're all looking for some type of soft-landing recovery here Liz some sectors are stabilizing, other sectors i don't know yet. I'd say the general economy is in a mess we've had 18 mos. of productivity declines that's has turn around.

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov 05, 2001 (AFXEurope via COMTEX) Shares in Sun Microsystems Inc gained sharply in midmorning New York trade, gaining around 7 pct, as the stock got a lift from its addition to JP Morgan analysts' 'focus list'.

The analysts maintained their 'buy' rating and 25.0 usd price target on the stock, saying "there is considerably upside implicit in our target price that will begin to be recognised with more urgency than was the case prior to (Sun's) firstquarter earnings release and subsequent news flow."

Amongst reasons for the stock's addition to the broker's 'focus list', the analysts cited the company's "bluntly" stating it may not be able to report positive earnings per share until its fourth quarter to June couled "with a determination to get to that result perhaps even a quarter earlier than they are committing to."

The company will also likely "carefully examine the impact of the latest round of cost cutting and determine whether more is needed sooner rather than later," they said.

Recent lowend product introductions are "quite significant" for the company, while its recent statements that its business has stabilised "lends credibility to the notion that Sun will show some sequential topline growth in the current quarter," the analysts said.

At 11.07 am in New York trade, Sun shares rallied 0.97 usd or 8.48 pct to 12.41. The Nasdaq composite traded 2.50 pct or 43.62 pts higher at 1,789.35 and the DJIA moved 1.33 pct or 124.07 pts higher to 9,447.61.
