"Official" statements in times of war may be calculated to mislead.... We call it disinformation. And the key to success in any disinformation campaign is consistency. When we are inconsistent we lose the ability to effectively use disinformation. And if that isn't bad enough, we end up losing credibility with our allies. That's not good. Edit: On a purely tactical assessment. OBLs disinformation campaign has been very good. He maintains a consistent disinformation campaign, i.e., there are no contradictions. They are lies, but consistent ones. jttmab
