LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- National Processing Company (NPC®), a leading provider of merchant credit card processing and a wholly owned subsidiary of National Processing, Inc. (NYSE: NAP), announced today the signing of a multi-year agreement with Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) to provide electronic payment settlement.

Humana Inc., headquartered in Louisville, Ky., is one of the nation's largest publicly traded health benefits companies.

Humana Inc. will utilize NPC's new global payment platform AcceleratedPay(SM) for electronic settlement of provider payments. AcceleratedPay will act as a settlement clearinghouse and a payment aggregator for Humana's electronic payments to physicians, hospitals and other providers.

``We were impressed with NPC's experience and success in providing electronic settlement for various industries,'' stated Walt Stark, assistant treasurer for Humana. ``NPC's vision to evolve that product offering and provide payment consolidation to the healthcare industry is not only timely, it's revolutionary.''

``Humana Inc. is the first healthcare organization to subscribe to NPC's global payment platform, AcceleratedPay,'' said Thomas A. Wimsett, president and chief executive officer. ``We plan to work diligently to build a valuable partnership with Humana, and we're eager to identify additional opportunities for AcceleratedPay with other healthcare payers.''
