isopatch,
Reminiscent of many empires late in their golden age that they become ensconced in a wasteful bureaucracy. Rome comes to mind as does France.

Difference with US is the ability to rejuvenate via the voters, i.e. throw the scoundrels out. Unfortunately, this does NOT apply to most of the bureaucracy. I believe President Reagan tried squeezing at this pimple and ended up only making it bigger! And remember the tremendous hue and cry that came from Congress during this period of the 80's.

I believe what you are talking about here is quite perceptive, rather revolutionary and VERY necessary to the continued success of our Republic.

I believe it is worthy of action and will make my opinion known to my representatives. I know History does not bode well for a successful assault on the bureaucratic status quo, which is far more of a quagmire than Afghanistan, yet the US has beaten the odds before, when the populous is energized on an issue.

Best Regards,

Roebear
