implementation of these new security measures is uneven at best

I'd bet a civil rights lawsuit or two will get things squared away fairly quickly. I especially do not like the "you cannot fly any plane from this airport today" concept.

a few months ago my plane arrived late in Vegas after my connector to SF had already departed. Being in First Class, I was the first person off the plane and immediately rebooked onto the 6am flight with a representative who met our arriving plane. When the ticket counter reopened at 5am, however, they had no record of my booking. Naturally, I insisted they put me on that plane. But when I went through security they took me aside to a room, went through every item in my luggage and briefcase and gave me a pat-down search. The big, burly rent-a-cop sneered at me the whole time just daring me to make a scene. I practically missed the plane. So my own personal experience is that things can get seemingly pretty arbitrary very quickly.

I was not pleased.
