Intel has put AMD in a position where the more chips its competitor sells, the more money it'll lose.

That is not true. ASPs seem to be going back up a bit but even at the bottom they were higher then the marginal cost to produce a processor. AMD lost money, but if they could have sold more at the same price they would have lost less, or not lost anything.
