Hi Qwik,

I've seen current PCI's replaced with network processors to improve throughput in PC-based routers. But there is a fairly large investment of software that needs to be edited in order to take advantage of them.

These kinds of changes take a long time to develop & don't manifest in the marketplace right way. Especially so, because of the existing base of hardware that has to be addressed. This will hurt Sun much less than someone like Microsoft.

Maintaining 2 compatible versions of code that vary on the I/O level is a bear.
