The solution, which will not occur for generations, is extremely strong campaign reform. If everyone got the same exposure in the media and it was paid for by the government and campaign contributions were not allowed, the whole dynamics of politics would change. Pork barrel politics would become useless and the logic of ideas would carry the day more than sound bytes. You would then have a national energy policy which would be centered on nuclear energy and make us energy independent. Also government sponsored R&D to get fuel cells widely deployed. A czar to oversee that we have rapid deployment of broadband internet (as 6 of the other developed nations have). Oh well, maybe some day.
