I am beginning to come to the view that education is almost on par with national defense as far as a government priority. The way we go about bettering education we may disagree over and I'm certainly for local control of schools but we need to do a much better job in this country if we hope to stay competitive on a global basis. We need to break the union stranglehold on our schools and bring much more accountability into the system. JLA

I believe public schools should wear uniforms. Especially in grades K-1 thru K-9. However, I believe the federal role should be very limited.

The President should use the bully-pulpit to encourage states and counties to experiment with different styles.

There is enough anecdotal evidence now which suggests student perform better, have far less incidents of violence, and feel a greater sense of belonging when wearing uniforms.

He may have been pandering. I wish he pandered more to the right instead of the left while he was in office.
