For now, Sony may have an edge re new games, but surely (I'm guessing) Softie will break that grip in due course.

I'd place my bets on Sony. Their track record in the consumer electronics market makes Microsoft's record look more like a lemonade stand. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any hardware consumer electronics product category Microsoft has competed in that has crossed the chasm.
