I am sorry you can't handle the truth.

Channeling Nicholson here? -g

There is no consensus view from the left, Bill. Why, even among those who post here who identify themselves as liberal, there is a great deal of variation in opinion about the nature of our proceedings in Afghanistan, how the new anti-terrorism bill will effect our civil rights, etc.

I am suggesting to you that each of us is trying our best to keep abreast of the news and to cope with the psychological and economic effects of the war. The longer the war on terrorism goes, the more impatient and emotional the reactions of all our citizens. I have read numerous "Just nuke 'em" diatribes by SI members who describe themselves as conservatives. I find this kind of thinking to be reprehensible.

I believe the focus of this thread is not on fingerpointing at the left and the right, but information sharing and debate. There are many threads on SI where partisan invective is the order of the day. I am under the impression that Faultline does not wish that to be the case here.

(Correct me if I'm wrong, FL.)

I have posted, and will continue to post, statement after statement from leaders of the left that confirm the point of view I have stated here. It is too bad that this is the consensus view from the left, but it is, and you will see the drumbeat for this view heat up as it takes longer and longer to get results in this war on Terrorism.

Bill,

If you are serious about these assertions, then read some of the recent literature on the left. You might start with recent issues of The Nation. Their columnists and essayists are all over the lot on the war. Christopher Hitchens is a LindyBill kind of guy on this point; others fit your stereotype; still others write very carefully thought through articles on the concept of a just war.

The left is a conversation not a rigid ideology. And, like the center and the right (whatever these distinctions mean), it has its share of closed minded types, as well as open minded ones.

John

Lindy - if this were to last for 10 years with many US soldiers killed just like in the vietnam war, what do you project your opinion will be at that point in time? (I fully understand that this war is different in that the US was attacked whereas in the Vietnam war the US was not attacked).

OT Lindy, what political direction was Timothy Mcvey? I seem to remember a right slant to his carcass. How about doctor killing pro-life murderers? Leaders in Islam have have swung severely RIGHT. Islamic fundamentalist's counterpart in the west would be Christian Fundamentalists. Right wing Fundies usurping power and curtailing civil liberties as a story line has played globally from both countries involved in this event unfolding before us. Quit slinging mud, or wear it. What are you doing? Making political hay? United we stand, except for those who didn't vote for your choice? We flipped a coin on the White House, Lindy. It wasn't a coronation. Planning Krystal Nact, Herr Overlord? Should I fear not being a member of the Party? Here is a thought: if Hitler would have understood what the significance of Jessie Owens' butt whuppin of the master racers really meant(diversity uber alles), we could have skipped a war. All the mechanical genius built in a code system (enigma) got cracked. Navaho codetalkers didn't. Ike himself was reputed to be of German descent. The terror war will be won using the part of America that is of ME descent, unless it is lost by dividers like you.
