Verrry funny! Who's to say that a PE of 20 is still the norm? If yopu take the last 5 years as the "norm", then a 20 PE is a steal. Stocks are worth whatever the market will pay for them.

Re: I had always assumed that analysts' earnings projections were real, and that the pro forma crapola was simply part of the press release, but as always I await enlightenment from the Truly Knowledgeable.

Skipping for now the Truly Knowledgeable and uncertain about enlightenment, I'd chime in by saying that one example where the analysts ran with the pro forma in lieu of actual earnings has been JDSU for the past couple or three years. I believe the crayola is smeared pretty neatly across much of techlandia. I've often marvelled at the ability of the talking heads on CNBC or Bloomberg TV to comment with a straight face on companies earning half or less of what they did a year ago, and yet, they met analyst's expectations!" How comforting.....
