While I was working in Middle East, we had two American women, not Jewish, come to visit us in Tel Aviv. One was quite beautiful, in her early 20s, right out of Le Carre's "The Little Drummer Girl."I was called by El Al security in London to vouch for her. It took quite some time to convince them that I was okay before they let her board. The other was even more interesting. This time our friend was same age, but heavy set. Despite the fact that she had excellent credentials (daughter of a U. S. envoy to a major European country), I again received a call from El Al security asking if I was expecting her and to vouch for her. Some years earlier. a stout girl, I recall her being from from Ireland, had an affair with a PLO operative and he convinced her they would marry once she got to Palestine. Trouble was he hid explosives in her luggage, timed to go off while plane was in the air. She never got off the ground.
